Hasselblad X Pan
"Film is not dead!" says the advertisement in Calmet's catalogue for June/July.So for the weekend I am taking one of the perks of the job to have a play around with a rental XPan. Now I know two owners of these superb panoramic cameras, at the risk of sounding elitist, neither is a professional photographer, although one is a serious semi-pro. Both seem to use if for landscapes.
As the fair is in town for Peebles' Beltane festival I am going to try some late dusk motion panoramics, long exposures, you'll have seen the stuff in photo magazines, at the night-time lecture on my courses or on this site tomorrow.
One advantage is that I'll check out my exposures with the D100 before proceeding to the Xpan and blowing film!
Even at staff discount film is still more costly than its digital cousin particularly with this camera as i will get it processed by Peak Imaging at £20.16 a roll! + £6.50 for a CD.
Wait for the results - maybe I'll have to eat my words and this page.

Roses

A bit of photography from my garden, two roses and below a Japanese Primula and Geum. All taken on manual mode, 1/160th f8/11 with a dash of flash from a (1970s) Vivitar 283 + manual adapter set to -5 stops + Stofen diffuser.

Little Shop of Horrors

Retried my hand at stage shooting on Thursday night at Peebles High School. When I was the Sevenoaks Chronicle photojournalist dress rehersals and the like were a staple part of the job. But until this week I'd not tried it out with digital. Setting was ISO 800, 1/60th f2.8 and 180mm lens so some shake and movement in some shots!
